WHO WE ARE

Who are Executive Standby

ESB was established in 1973 to specialise in the provision of experienced executives and specialist staff on an interim or short-term contract basis. This service provides the majority of our work and can be for either full or part time employment. Based on our close relationships with some of our clients, we have also expanded our service to include permanent recruitment. Whichever method of employment is selected, our objective is to deliver a responsive, quality service to our clients; based on proven systems and a low overhead operation at a competitive fee rate.

Our clients range from large UK- based multi-nationals to smaller local companies, operating in a wide variety of industries. They include smoke stack and hi-tech, chemicals and banking, oil & gas and manufacturing as well as educational and not- for -profit organisations. Our assignments are mostly in the UK but also include work overseas. The job functions and positions are even more varied than the companies we serve. They range from sales to production management, from technical engineer to managing director, from customer service to accounting and finance.

As one of the first into the interim management field, ESB intends to remain the first choice for clients by providing excellent service and proven systems.

How Executive Standby Operate ESB maintains extensive computerised databases of proven individuals who are interested in either permanent jobs or interim assignments. Our system can efficiently cross index industry sectors and employment experience so that we can rapidly identify the people who match a client’s specific requirements. This rapid analysis means the relevant CVs can be on a client’s desk within a day or two of receipt of the enquiry.

In urgent situations, we can fax or e-mail details the same day.

Potential applicants are carefully screened before adding them to our database – we only include those who have proven capability in their field of expertise. We will normally check on two references prior to recommending them to clients as well as ensuring that they are currently available for the assignment in question plus checking references or qualifications

For interim / contract assignments, we work with the client to develop a suitable job specification and salary parameters.  We then contact potentially suitable candidates and discuss the assignment with them.  From this we prepare a short list for interview by the client and arrange the interviews. Once the client has selected a candidate, the individual concerned is employed by ESB and seconded to the client at whichever location is required for the duration of the assignment. The terms of employment are set wholly by the client -duties, rate of pay, hours and place of work etc.

ESB then does all the necessary administration. We prepare the contract of employment and pay the agreed salaries, including PAYE and NIC. We carry out all relevant taxation reporting and even reimburse approved expenses if necessary. Any future amendments to the original terms and conditions of employment, change of hours, pay rate location etc. are also handled by us. We simply submit a monthly invoice covering our disbursements and fee.

For permanent jobs, we will advise on the job specification and salary package as appropriate and agree a sourcing strategy. We will discuss the assignment with suitable candidates and prepare a short list for client interview. Once the client has selected an ESB candidate, we will assist as required with any final negotiations on terms and salary. Once our candidate has started, we will then invoice the client at our agreed fee. We work strictly on a payment by results basis. Unless otherwise agreed, no fee is charged without a satisfactory appointment being made. Outplacement Service

One of the services ESB regularly offers to established clients is a specialist outplacement process. Where a client has an employee who is due to retire or be made redundant due to organisational restructuring, but whom they wish to retain temporarily on a part time or full time basis for specific project work, ESB will take that person onto its payroll and then contract their services into the client company for as long as is needed. This can be a very cost-effective way for clients to retain particular individual skills for a limited period and / or to complete outstanding projects.

Successful recruitment requires both the client and ESB to invest time and money. We recognize the importance of this and will do everything we can to achieve cost effective results by being a pro-active business partner with our clients.

Temporary / Interim Charges

Our standard fee is 15%, calculated on the monthly total of gross salary plus any employer’s NIC. Since the salary is negotiated directly by the client, our fee can be taken into account during the salary negotiations. There are no search fees, advertising costs and no charge is made to the employee for our service. No additional charges are made for handling the reimbursement of any approved employee expenses. Permanent Charges

For those appointments where the individual is to be directly employed by the client, a fee of 15-20% (depending on the amount of ESB involvement in the interview and recruitment process) of the first year’s salary is charged. Fee levels are discussed and agreed beforehand with the client. We guarantee a no cost replacement or refund of fees in the event that our candidate leaves prematurely. Any costs for a specific advertising campaign may be agreed separately with the client.

We work strictly on a payment by results basis so no fee is charged unless a satisfactory appointment is made.
